Most surprising ending ever!
I just finished reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I fell in love with the book as soon as I read the last words. SPOILER ALERT! At the end of Dear John he discovered that Savannah was married to Tim and six months earlier he was diagnosed with Melanoma, which is a fatal skin cancer. Savannah couldn't afford going to a more advanced hospital so he could get treated there, so the whole town was on their hands and knees praying for him. John knew that his dad's coin collection was worth a lot of money so he sold every coin except for one that he and his dad found together. He donated all the money from an anonymous source to Savannah and Tim so he would survive and he would live happily ever after.

wow, this book sounds great, i saw the movie but i bet the book is way better. Great blog posts!
ReplyDeleteHate to say it, Michaela, but I guessed that part!! Here's why:
ReplyDelete1. Because John has been saying the whole book through that he wanted to be a better person (someone more like his dad and Savannah)
2. Because he didn't know what to do with the coins except sell them...and he knew how much they were worth
3. Because WHY, after so many years apart, do John and Savannah spend so much time talking about money when they visit at her house?? I fgured there had to be a reason why Sparks focused on that.
It's always good to keep in minf that authors do everything intentionally!
